SLOTTED NUT/ CASTLE NUT
Grooved nuts are a precursor to lock nuts and don’t have a function on their own. They are often used in conjunction with bolts that have through holes in their threads. When tightened, a pin or something similar is used to secure the bolt’s threads and the grooves of the grooved nut, preventing loosening.
